Statements from Attendees and Participants to the SELF Image Awards

What an Afrocentric experience!!! Marci and Shanti Walker, mother and son team, created the experience of an African Village Celebration in the spirit of kinship, mind, body and of course HAIR with this year's event. The African drummers, the fashion design (Shanti), the beautiful natural hair designs by their PRESENTERS, the African Marketplace of vendors, and all of the mentees, friends and family that stepped forth to make this event a success was truly amazing. Who says it does not take a village? I know our ancestors were jumping for joy, because I know I was....Thank you Marci & Shanti for keeping the cause of Domestic Violence alive and pushing forward with the true intent of making a difference
Comments by: Dr. Denise O’Sullivan … Professor Argosy University

The SELF Image Awards was phenomenal. The power and energy in the room was breathtaking. From the spoken word artist to the awards presentation, to the hair show. We were inspired and moved from tears to laughter. Marci & Shanti Walker uplifted our spirits and called us all into action against Domestic Violence in our communities. It was truly an amazing event.
Comments by: Pastor Anika Wilson-Brown … Union Temple Baptist Church

Thank you for honoring Industry Leaders in natural hair and spotlighting help for those entangled in domestic violence. The ballroom setting was styled in classic simplicity and full to overflowing with beautiful examples of natural hair in all its glory. The fashion show finale’ was colorful, creative and fantastic! Great Job, Hosts, Madam Walker's Braidery. The SELF Image Awards Foundation is truly making a difference.
